The Commission will also review progress made in relation to eliminating “all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child.”
It will hold a panel discussion on “the empowerment of rural women and their role in poverty and hunger eradication, development and current challenges” – the priority theme of the 56th session of the Commission, as well as an interactive panel discussion on the elimination of preventable maternal mortality and morbidity and the empowerment of women.
The Commission on the Status of Women will be meeting in New York from February 22nd to March 4th, 2011. The theme this year is access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work
